Please send me the following file from the working copy that is failing:

   build/x86-pc-linux-gnu/config.log

I really apologize to everyone that we are having all of these problems.

What are the odds that I could get an account on a Debian stable box to
use for testing the build system? It would be nice to set up a nightly
cron job on it to ensure that we are notified when we have broken the
build on that platform. That account would also ensure that an autotool
expert can integrate solutions that work on every platform.
