Configuring error

I have this problem as well.
libmutil and libmcrypto are installed as far as I can tell.

$ pkg-config --cflags --libs libcrypto
 -lcrypto
$ pkg-config --cflags --libs libmutil
-I/usr/local/include  -L/usr/local/lib -lmutil


Using xubuntu.
Any help would be appreciated :)
